Removing Wrinkles From a Leather Garment
We've included
a few different methods for you. Try which ever technique you think
will work best for your leather garment.
Always be extra careful and take great care when dealing with a leather
garment. Whenever doing something for the first time at home, always
test on a small inconspicuous area first.
The Steam
Method
One solution is to hang the leather garment in the bathroom. Turn
the shower on hot to steam up the room. Let the steam work out the
wrinkles. Take the leather garment out of the bathroom and lay it
on a flat surface, such as the bed or an ironing board. Smooth the
leather garment with your hands to massage the wrinkles away.
Normally, hanging a leather garment from a thick hanger and gently
pulling the wrinkles would straighten them out. Most wrinkles will
hang out on their own, although it is perfectly safe to iron leather,
as long as it is done correctly.
Ironing
a Leather Garment
Do NOT put an iron directly in contact with leather. Always AVOID
using steam while using your iron on your leather. Set the iron on
the rayon setting.
Use a 100% COTTON cloth in between the leather garment and the iron,
or use heavy brown wrapping paper as a pressing cloth and a barrier
between the item and the iron. Press with a light, quick hand to avoid
overheating and shine. Wrinkles should come right out. As always,
when doing something at home, test on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Try one of these today if you have time and tomorrow we'll finish
up with the other methods for removing wrinkles from Leather.
Using
A Blow Dryer
You can also try
using a blow dryer but do not put it in direct contact with a leather
garment. If the leather is not too badly wrinkled, then the blow dryer
may work. Always use extreme caution and patience, and test on a small
area first.
Patience is key. If you want your leather garments looking their best,
then give them your best effort. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.
**Cleaning
and Storage Tip**
After you clean
your leather garment with a damp cloth or a mild soap, pat the surface
with a clean soft cloth. Then give the leather a fine dusting with
baby powder to seal the pores. Finish with a rubdown using a clean
dry cloth to bring back the sheen.
Nice and fresh!
Store your leather garment in a well-ventilated area and cover with
a cloth to keep it dust free. Avoid storing your leather garment in
plastic. Leather is porous and it needs to "breathe."
